Lord Martin Rees, Ph.D., OM, FRS is a Fellow of Trinity College and Emeritus Professor of Cosmology and Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge. He holds the honorary title of Astronomer Royal and also Visiting Professor at Imperial College London and at Leicester University and 2005-2010 President of the Royal Society.


Sir Rees has written and spoken extensively about the problems and challenges of the 21st century, and the interfaces between science, ethics, and politics. He is a member of the Board of the Institute for Advanced Study, in Princeton, the Oxford Martin School, and the Gates Cambridge Trust. He co-founded the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Future of Life Institute. He has received honorary degrees from a number of universities including Sussex, Uppsala, Toronto, Durham, Oxford, London, Yale, Greenwich, Melbourne, and Sydney.
